Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) :
About 90% of all nosocomial urinary tract infections are caused by urinary drainage. Apart from the health risks for the patient, such infections also present a big economic problem. Companies offers a variety of products which reduce the risk of infection. The closed urinary drainage system represents one of the most important elements of prophylaxis against infections. Several players offer urinary drainage systems that meet all the hygienic demands which are required for a high-quality closed system for long-term medical care. A catheter can make a difference to health and quality of life. A urinary catheter is a flexible hollow tube to drain urine. It passes through the urethra (the tube from the bladder to the outside) into the bladder. The catheter is held in place by a small balloon that is inflated in the bladder and by the catheter strap on the upper thigh. The catheter is connected to a bag that collects the urine.
On the basis of product, the market is segmented into large bags and leg bags. The leg bags segment dominated the market in 2020. A leg drainage bag is a smaller collection bag for use at household throughout the day or outside the house and can stay in place for 5-7 days. The leg bag can be strapped to the leg (thigh or calf) or held in place using straps and/or sleeves/holders. It is easy to hide under the clothing. The leg straps should be wrapped around the leg, with the bottom strap below the knee. Do not make the straps too tight because this could slow the blood flow to the leg. It is necessary to take care of the leg bag in the same way as the overnight drainage bag. Different people produce different quantities of urine and some people can go for longer periods of time before they need to empty their leg bag. Most people are prescribed a 500ml leg bag, although some are prescribed 750ml or even up to 1,300ml if they are in a wheelchair.
North America accounted for the largest share of the global urinary drainage bags market in 2020. Moreover, Asia is likely to show lucrative growth during the forecast period. Bladder cancer is the tenth commonest cancer in Australia, accounting for approximately 2% of all new cancers. In keeping with most other countries, the incidence of bladder cancer in Australia is more than three times higher in men than in women. Unfortunately, bladder cancer is the only cancer in Australia in which survival is worsening; five-year survival has fallen from 68% to 58% in the past 30 years. Of additional concern is the significantly lower five-year survival for women, which is 50%, as compared with 60% in men. In such circumstances, the urinary drainage bags market is set to prosper in the region.
