As per the FDA, it is establishing the standards where ‘food-grade’ substance is meeting the addition to foods and is using the result in food. However, the necessity for amount used purity and the procedure on using the mineral oil.

NF (National Formulary) and USP (United States Pharmacopoeia) are creating the regulations for using the manufacturing of mineral oil. Hence, FDA needs food-grade mineral oil for meeting the requirements of USP XX test for carbonizing the substances. However, USP are releasing and test requirements of USP XVII for the compounds of sulfur. Thus, it is necessary for meeting the specifications of Journal Association of the Official Analytical Chemists.

White mineral oil are using as lubricant for the machinery of food-processing on registering with NSF International, organization of global food safety, where lubricants for food contact on using the plants in food-processing in jurisdiction of USDA (U.S. Department of Agriculture). However, white mineral oil is receiving the certification of Kosher.

Thus, different organizations are observing the mineral oil in various industries. For instance, AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials) are governing the uses of dust control agent for animal feeding. Hence, classification is very different from the mineral oil. Hence, mineral oil is useful for the pharmaceuticals production considering pharmaceutical-grade. However, preparation and the industries of food processing are continuously using the mineral oil. Occasionally, producers are adding mineral oil to food. Thus, mineral oil is supporting in the procedure of production not added directly to food. Hence, mineral oil is coming in contact with food in achieving the food-grade classification and are using in regulations and the laws.
